Meeting Thursday 9/28/06

There will be a silent meeting this Thursday evening at 7:30 PM at my home in Noe Valley, San Francisco on Dolores Street and 29th Street. Please call me at 415-642-1519 to RSVP only if you plan to attend. I will give you the street address then. There is street parking and access via Muni J Line on Church street as well as MIssion Street busses and also the 24 bus. There will be no food served.

We will sit for a 15 minute period followed by a viewing the DVD entitled "What is Meditation?" Running time is 1:04 Hrs. There will be another sit for 15 minutes after the showing. We'll be finsihed shortly after 9 PM.

For anyone whishing to chant for 30 minutes prior to the meeting, I will play chants from Jai Uttal's album entitled "Kirtan! the art and practice of ecstatic chant" There will be two tracks - its a great experience and I hope you can make it - at 7 PM sharp.

Synopsis of the DVD:

Can one realize the Self through meditation?  Whether you are new to meditation or have been a long time meditator, this talk can change the form of any meditation practice into a meditation without form.  Learn the key ways to go beyond formal meditation.  Then, with or without the use of practices or methods, realize and live who you are at the deepest level.  Life itself then becomes a meditation.

Group resumption

After an intense summer, I will host a regular study group again.

Eckhart has indicated that these groups be silent. I believe it is useful to stay silent during spiritual practice in order to assist with sensing the direct felt experience moment by moment as well as minimizing ego involvement. However, many people have shown an interest in some level of communication in order to get to know others who are traveling on parallel paths.

Therefore, I propose to have a pre (or post) study group gathering for those individuals wishing to partake in an activity like chanting or viewing related videos or perhaps just having discussions on topics that come up spontaneously. I'm also open to a pot luck type event.

The formal group portion, conducted in silence, consists of meditation, followed by audio or video showings as requested by Eckhart Tolle.

In other words, participants could chose to just attend the silent study group where no communication is practiced, or they could arrive earlier or stay later for an extracurricular event as announced concurrently with the formal group event.

All meetings are free. No food is served. Stay tuned for meeting dates by the end of this week.
